At least one person was killed and 20 others sustained injuries after a bus of the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) collided head-on with a truck loaded with LPG cylinders at Takara Ghati on Khordha-Bolangir National Highway Number-57 under Daspalla Police Station limits of Nayagarh district on Saturday morning.

Locals present at the spot rescued the four youths from the car and rushed them to the DHH in an ambulance. However, two of the youths were declared dead by the doctors.
While three passengers on board the vehicle died on the spot, two others were pronounced dead at a health centre. The impact of the collision was so severe that the car was badly mangled.
Out of the 11 occupants in the vehicle, four including three women reportedly died on the spot, while seven others were rescued with critical wounds.
At least five others have also sustained multiple injuries in the mishap and they have been admitted to Berhampur MKCG hospital for treatment.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren condoled the deaths and directed the district administration to ensure proper treatment of the injured persons.
While 3 youths died on spot, 6 others were grievously injured. The injured persons have been rushed to a hospital in Raikia for treatment.
Ampani Police rushed to the spot after getting information and rushed the critically injured driver Sahu to Community Health Centre (CHC) at Kokasara in Kalahandi district. However, Sahu was declared dead by the doctors.
The rising cases of deaths and injuries resulting from road accidents have been a major concern in Odisha. The State registered 4,738 fatalities due to road mishaps in 2020. The same year, around 5,000 suffered injuries, State Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera informed at the State level Road Safety Council meeting on Thursday.
In Odisha, the fatality rate (death per 100 accidents) is 48 compared to the national average of 36, according to the data shared by the State Transport Department.
Authorities said that a mechanical failure caused the truck to hit a retaining wall on a curve before crashing into a pedestrian bridge, leading the cargo container to detach and overturn on the asphalt.

Of the two deceased, one has been identified as the groom’s father who was the Sarpacnch of Pandripani Pachayat.
