Odisha is facing severe heatwave conditions with no immediate relief expected as the IMD predicts continued high temperatures ranging from 42 to 44 degrees C until mid-May 2024. Umashankar Dash of the IMD highlights an ongoing intense heat spell affecting eastern India, notably Odisha and West Bengal.
The IMD has predicted that the maximum temperature (Day Temperature) is likely to rise by 2-4°C during the next 3 to 4 days at many places over the district of Odisha.

There seems to be no respite from heatwave for the people in several parts of Odisha as the mercury level touched 41 degree mark by 11:30 am on Sunday.
The Odisha government on Friday confirmed that one person has so far died of sunstroke this season.
The IMD has also issued an orange warning for heat wave to severe heat wave conditions in different parts of Odisha for the next two days.
As for the violation of MCC, the CEO said that common people have brought more allegations via the C-Vigil platform. “We have received 3,800 complaints via C-Vigil from common citizens,” he said.
Moreover, Orange Warning has been issued to as many as four districts in the State for tomorrow.
As per the prediction by the Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar, the heatwave conditions may further intensify across the State with mercury reaching 45 degrees Celsius in some areas between April 18 and 20.
Odisha reeled under intense heat with mercury touching 40 degrees Celsius in several places of the State on Friday. Bhawanipatna, Bolangir, Titlagarh, Nayagarh and Boudh recorded 40 degrees Celsius each. Talcher recorded 39.8 degC, Phulbani (39.2), Jharsuguda (39.1), Angul (39.1), and Nabarangpur (39).
As per the IMD, light rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda and Mayurbhanj on January 5 and 6. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest of the districts of Odisha.
Other towns where winter chills were felt on Tuesday are -- Phulbani (10 degrees), Angul (10.6 degrees), Sundargarh (11 degrees), Koraput (11.2 degrees) and Rourkela (11.3 degrees).
“The system is moving at around 11kmph towards north and has laid centrerd over north-east Telangana and south-west Odisha border. It is likely to move more towards Chhattisgarh and weaken into a Low Pressure," the IMD said.
A cyclonic circulation lies over Myanmar and adjoining Eastcentral Bay of Bengal currently. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over East Central and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours.
