Winter chills have gripped many parts of Odisha as night temperature dropped below ten degrees in several places on Tuesday.

G Udaygiri in Kandhamal emerged as the coldest place in the state with a minimum temperature of 7.2 degrees recorded on Tuesday.

Similarly, Keonjhar and Kirei in Sundargarh registered a minimum temperature of 9.4 degrees. Daringibadi registered 9.5 degrees.

Other towns where winter chills were felt on Tuesday are -- Phulbani (10 degrees), Angul (10.6 degrees), Sundargarh (11 degrees), Koraput (11.2 degrees) and Rourkela (11.3 degrees).

Speaking about the cold conditions, a local of Jeypore in Koraput said, “Temperature has suddenly dropped in the last 3-4 days. We have to wear winter-wear to keep ourselves warm.”

“We try to warm our bodies up by doing exercises in the morning. Though this temperature is not abnormal during this time of the year, we are enjoying this season,” said another local of Jeypore.

In the twin cities, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded minimum night temperature of 14.5 degree Celsius and 14.6 degree Celsius on Tuesday.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the dry and cold weather condition is likely to prevail in Odisha for the next four to five days with no major change in night temperature.

Shallow to Moderate fog is very likely to occur in the morning at one or two places over the districts of interior Odisha, the IMD added.
