Odisha reeled under intense heat with mercury touching 40 degrees Celsius in several places of the State on Friday. Bhawanipatna, Bolangir, Titlagarh, Nayagarh and Boudh recorded 40 degrees Celsius each. Talcher recorded 39.8 degC, Phulbani (39.2), Jharsuguda (39.1), Angul (39.1), and Nabarangpur (39).

The Bhubaneswar centre of the IMD, in a release, said, "Due to prevailing dry conditions over major parts the state and high solar insolation, further rise in
maximum temperature (Day Temperature) is likely by 2 degrees Celsius at a few places over some parts of interior Odisha during the next 48 Hours." 

Day temperature is likely to be between 38 to 40°C at many places over the districts in interior parts and between 36 to 38°C over the coastal districts of Odisha during the next 4 to 5 days, the IMD said. 

Hot & Humid weather conditions are likely to prevail over some districts of Odisha during the next 4-5 days, the IMD stated.

"Temperatures in certain places in western Odisha may touch 40 degrees C in the next couple of days. As there will be no meaningful rainfall activities in the first week of April, the temperatures are expected to rise gradually and may cross 40 degrees Celsius in some places," said Umashankar Das, IMD Bhubaneswar scientist.
