The Odisha government on Friday confirmed that one person has so far died of sunstroke this season. Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra informed that the sole sunstroke casualty has been reported from Balasore district. A total of 71 cases of heat-related illness have been reported from different parts of Odisha owing to heat wave to severe heat wave condition that is currently prevailing in the state. According to Mishra, the highest 35 cases of heat-related illness have been reported from Sundargarh district, 7 each from Mayurbhanj and Angul. The Health Department has advised people to take precautionary measures in view of the heat wave conditions in the state. Vulnerable people like infants, elderly, pregnant women and sick persons should take extra precautions. People should refrain from moving out under the scorching heat during the peak hours of the day (i.e. between 11 am and 3pm). People should drink sufficient water even if not feeling thirsty to avoid dehydration. Apart from this, people have been advised to drink ORS, homemade drinks like lassi, Torani (rice water), sugarcane juice, lemon water, and buttermilk, to re-hydrate the body.
