The Panchayat poll is scheduled to be held in Odisha early next year. 

BJP Odisha in-charge D Purandareswari and State party president Samir Mohanty held detailed discussion with heads of party's various fronts and State general secretaries and prepared blueprint to fight against the State government on various issues in the upcoming panchayat polls.

There are 104 seats reserved for Backward Class Citizens (BCC) and Backward Class Citizens Women (BCCW) in the Zilla Parishad polls.

In 2017, polls were conducted in 6,801 village panchayats. However, their number has reduced to 6,794 for the upcoming polls. The panchayats that have been excluded from the list include 4 from Balasore's Remuna NAC, 2 from Nayagarh's Odagaon and one from Bargarh's Bijepur.

A candidate contesting for Zilla Parishad member post can now spend up to Rs 5 lakh while the expenditure ceiling for panchayat samiti member and sarpanch has been hiked to Rs 2 lakh.

The State Panchayati Raj department has issued a directive to the administrative heads of all districts to accelerate the preparations for the elections on a priority basis.
