A day after Odisha government curtailed the mass vaccination programme in the State in the wake of acute shortage of doses, around 9.43 lakh jabs of Covishield vaccines manufactured by the Serum Institute of India reached the State on Friday.

The State government of Odisha on Wednesday announced cancelling the global e-tender floated for procuring Covid-19 vaccines from manufacturers across the world. The Odisha State Medical Corporation Ltd has issued a notification regarding this announcement.

A petition has been filed in the Orissa High Court seeking a high-level independent audit of the Covid deaths in the State. Congress leader and petitioner Nishikanta Mishra has prayed before the HC to direct for a special assessment of the number of deaths in the State due to Covid-19 infections.

Odisha has seen a marginal rise in the daily cases of Covid-19 in the last two days. The State has reported a total of 3631 new infections in the last 24 hours with 2069 cases out of them detected from quarantines. Similarly, 1562 new cases have been reported as local contact infections.

Covid recovery cases inched towards 8 lakh mark in Odisha after the State reported over 7 thousand single-day recoveries today.

The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) of Odisha government has clarified that all agriculture, horticulture and allied activities will remain fully functional without any restricted time limit as has been allowed for essential activities in all the districts of the State during the lockdown imposed in wake of the second wave of Covid-19.

The city municipal corporation authorities here has expedited the second dose of Covid vaccination for the beneficiaries under the age category of 18 to 44 years. The third phase of Covid vaccination is continuing in the city since May 3.
