Sundargarh: Amid the grave situation of Covid pandemic in Odisha when people are struggling to grapple with the sweeping crisis, a pathetic spectacle of alleged VIP culture has come to the fore from Sundargarh district headquarters hospital sparking criticism from the public. A video capturing a complainant named Deepanjai Pati of Khamaripada area contains the narration of the entire act which has now gone viral on social media.

In the video, Deepanjali could be seen saying how she along with over a dozen of pregnant women waited for their turn at the hospital for ultrasonography tests recently but the nurse on duty showed negligent attitude and delayed their health inspection. However, when the wife of the district collector arrived at the hospital, the doctors and other in-charges at the medical prioritized their treatment even though the ordinary patients suffered at the other end.

She alleged that despite being allotted the first slot for the test after arriving at 9 am, she was made to wait for nearly 3 hours at the medical for her turn due to which she even could not take her food and water.

"Despite knowing the fact that I am nine months pregnant and expecting my child anytime, the doctors did not bother to attend me and as many as 12 other expectant mothers who came after me to the hospital for ultrasound and treatment under Matrujyoti Yojana," Deepanjai alleged in front of OTV camera.

"But the medical staff left no stone unturned to impress the district collector and rushed to perform his wife's sonography test as soon as she arrived. The doctors took nearly half an hour to complete the procedure but from the manner of the tests that we had to undergo after that, it seemed that they never hesitated to throw us out from the hospital after finishing the inspection in just five minutes. The incident is unfortunate and extremely saddening for us," rued an upset Deepanjali.

The district collector however could not be available for response in connection with the allegation.
