The three parties are weighing the pros and cons of the candidates of three categories – youth, women and senior leaders -- apart from their winnability. All three parties have multiple ticket hopefuls in almost all Assembly seats, as per reports.
Election preparation meetings were held in various districts today after the dates were announced on Saturday. District Collectors and SPs of Khordha, Kendrapara, Ganjam, Balasore, Jajpur and Deogarh districts held election preparation meetings. The district collectors also held meetings with political parties at some places.
The entry of Congress leader Bapi Sarkhel’s wife Monidipa Sarkhel into the BJD has added a twist to the politics in Paradip. Her entry is said to have thrown a challenge for incumbent MLA Sambit Routray, who is hoping for a party ticket for him or his wife Gitanjali.
Speaking to reporters, senior Congress leader and Jatni MLA, Suresh Routray said, “Our tickets are ready to be distributed. But we will not declare it until both the BJD and the BJP declare their candidates. We will field candidates who will render their (BJD & BJD) candidates useless.”
The BJP will also highlight the achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government in the last 10 years as part of its strategy for the 2024 polls.
"As long as I stayed with the BJD, I worked with dedication. I always thought of the party. If some people will benefit after I quit the party, I am happy. Many leaders have got tickets four times, but I was not given a ticket even once," Roy said.
The party has prepared a list of candidates for 147 Assembly and 21 Lok Sabha seats and will send the same to the central committee for perusal at its end.
In the 2022 by-election, the BJD had denied a ticket to former MLA Raju Das, who turned a rebel and contested as an independent. Raju Das is said to be a major factor behind the victory of BJP's Suryavanshi Suraj, who defeated BJD candidate Abanti Das by a margin of 9,881 votes.
As per ECI, the voting in Odisha will be held on May 13, May 20, May 25 and on June 1.
On being asked about a possible alliance between the BJP and the BJD, Tomar on Saturday said that the party is ready with the strategy and fight with its full might in the general elections
While saying that a decision is pending at the top leadership level, Amit Shah claimed that BJP will perform significantly better in Odisha.
Arindam, who was the star campaigner of the BJD since 2014, submitted his resignation to party supremo Naveen Patnaik.
BJP leader and Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev termed the 10,000 aspirants who have applied for BJD tickets as bombs.
The manifesto was released in presence of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Sarat Pattnaik, party’s state in-charge Ajoy Kumar and other state leaders at a presser held in Bhubaneswar.
Both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held in Odisha. It is expected that the ECI will announce the complete schedule for both elections tomorrow.
