In the coming four to five days, Odisha's most places are likely to experience intense heat.

While the rainfall activities have considerably brought down the temperature, providing much-needed respite from the hot conditions, the temperature is likely to reach 40 degree Celsius by the end of March, as per the MeT reports.

The previous lowest maximum day temperature of 24.3 degrees Celsius was recorded on 6th March 1970 and today’s (20th March 2024) maximum temperature of 19.2 degrees Celsius surpassed that record and became the lowest reading on the scale since the year 1952, IMD said.   

As per the IMD, there will be no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) during the next 24 hrs following which there will be a rise by 8-10 degrees Celsius at most places over the districts of Odisha.

The anti-cyclonic circulation lies over Westcentral and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast in lower tropospheric levels.

As per the IMD, several parts of Odisha are likely to experience heavy rainfall activities during this period. Orange and yellow warnings have also been issued for several districts in this regard.

As per the IMD, the trough from north Odisha to east Vidarbha now runs from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to Coastal Andhra Pradesh across Gangetic West Bengal.

Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) over Jharkhand, Odisha, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and East Madhya Pradesh is likely to occur between March 16 and March 20, 2024.

The Western Odisha town of Bolangir recorded a maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

As per the IMD’s latest forecast, the maximum temperature is likely to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius during the next two to three days and no large change is expected thereafter.

As per IMD, there will be no major change in the maximum and minimum temperature for the next two days. However, there is a forecast of a gradual rise in the temperature from March 11, 2024. 

There is no likelihood of large change in both maximum temperature (day temperature) and minimum temperature (night temperature) at many places over the districts of Odisha during next 3-4 days.

Light rain very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Balasore, Bhadrak

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted a slight rise in the maximum temperature by 2 degrees Celsius in Odisha during the next two days and no major change thereafter.

In a letter, the department suggested several preventive measures that need to be undertaken by all Directors and District Education Officers (DEOs) to tackle the heat wave situation during the summer season.
