Low pressure forms

Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal, a low pressure area has formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday.

The associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height. It is likely to move slowly northwards and become more marked during next 48 hours. Earlier, the IMD had predicted formation of the low pressure around May 27, 2025.

Following the formation of the low pressure area, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) shot off a letter to all district Collectors issuing an advisory.

What the Odisha SRC Advisory Says

As per the SRC advisory, the Collectors of the districts for which IMD has issued orange and yellow warning in Odisha have been asked to keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality.

The people have also been asked to keep a watch on weather and take safe shelter during thunderstorm activity to stay protected from lightning.

The SRC office has asked the district Collectors to ensure that there is strict implementation of the advice issued for the fishermen.

‘Submit Report on Damage’

The SRC office has also asked district Collectors to submit reports on damage, if it occurs due to thunderstorm, whirlwind, hailstorm, lightning and rainfall, immediately for information of the Odisha government.
