IMD issues orange and yellow warning for thunderstorm and heavy rainfall in Odisha; check districts

Ahead of the formation of low pressure area over west-central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal around  May 27, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued an alert for thunderstorm and heavy rainfall in some parts of Odisha.

An orange warning for thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph and heavy rainfall has been issued for 16 districts of the state in the next 24 hours.

As per IMD, thunderstorm activities with possibility of heavy rainfall is likely in several parts of Odisha till June 1, 2025.

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph and Heavy rainfall very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur,Cuttack,Kendrapada, Puri, Khordha, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Koraput, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati. 

Yellow Warning:  Thunderstorm with lightning with surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapara, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 26.05.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 27.05.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangir.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 27.05.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 28.05.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangapur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Boudh, Sonepur, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput.

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 28.05.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 29.05.2025
