IMD issues yellow warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorm in Odisha districts

As per IMD, several parts of Odisha are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning, with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. A yellow warning in this regard has also been issued.

Thunderstorm Alert For Odisha Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted rain and thunderstorm activities with heavy rainfall in some parts of Odisha in the next couple of days.

As per IMD, several parts of Odisha are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning, with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. A yellow warning in this regard has also been issued.

“No large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) during next 24 hours and thereafter rise by 2 to 4 degrees C in subsequent 5 -6 days over the districts of Odisha,” informed IMD.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers likely at a few places across Odisha.

Yellow Warning (Be Aware): Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) and heavy rainfall likely at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhargarh, Sundargarh.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal.

Day 2 (From 08:30 AM of 1st June to 08:30 AM of 2nd June 2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph likely at one or two places in Coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri.

Day 3 (From 08:30 AM of 2nd June to 08:30 AM of 3rd June 2025)

Light rain or Thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur and dry weather very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
