Thrashing of minor boy at Hirakud PS: Mother files complaint
Hirakud: The mother of the minor boy, who was tortured at Hirakud police station, lodged a written complaint against four police staff and a contractor on Friday.
She also met Sambalpur SP Akhileshwar Singh and demanded strict action against the police staff involved in the custodial torture of her son.
Meanwhile, a fact-finding team of DIG northern range office visited the minor boy’s home and recorded statements from family members.
Notably, an exclusive video footage aired on OTV on Wednesday showed the 15-year-old boy, who was brought to the police station on charges of involvement in some petty quarrel, being thrashed mercilessly by the officials of the Hirakud police station. Later he was let off after Rs 6,000 was paid as bribe on September 19.
Director General of Police KB Singh on Thursday suspended Hirakud police station inspector-in-charge Savitri Bal in connection with the torture of the minor boy in police custody whereas the Sambalpur SP suspended two constables and sacked a home guard.
The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on Thursday filed a suo moto complaint over the merciless thrashing of the minor boy three months back and asked the Deputy Inspector General Northern range and SP to file a report in seven days.
Besides, social activist Biswapriya Kanungo moved the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and filed an online complaint on the police torture of the minor boy. In his complaint, Kanungo demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation for the family of the boy. He also sought a criminal case to be registered and departmental action taken against the officers involved.
