CB nabs dreaded tusk trader Iza Mia

Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch of Odisha Police today arrested the dreaded tusk trader Israel Khan alias Iza Mia from his house near Narasinghapur on the outskirt of the city.

The State probe agency raided Iza’s house and nabbed him from there, sources said, adding that as many as 10 cases relating Forest and Wildlife Act are pending against him. He had been on the run for past two years.

Iza, who was active in the nearby areas of Angul district, was later brought to Cuttack headquarters of Crime Branch for further interrogation. He admitted during interrogation that he had killed three elephants by opening fire on them, sources added.

Iza was the head of one of the tusk trader gangs operating in the State. Hence, the sleuths are trying to find out wheatear he has any connection with any international gang, said Crime Branch additional director-general B.K. Sharma.

In December 2014, the investigating agency had nabbed another notorious tusk trader Afzal Beg.
