Anandatma Ashram case: Govt orders Crime Branch probe
Salipur: The State government has ordered Crime Branch probe into the death of Ashok Patra, who burnt body was found on the premises of Anandatma Ashram at Rameswar in Salipur of Cuttak district.
According to sources, the Home department has issued an order to this effect. This step by the government comes after protests alleging murder and demanding action against culprits.
Notably, the burnt body of Patra, a resident of Chapada village near Salipur, was found on the Ashram premises in September. As the news spread like wildfire, hundreds of irate villagers had barged into the ashram, ransacked it and set it on fire.
They alleged that head of the ashram Atma Baba murdered Patra and burnt his body to destroy evidence. They had claimed several complaints were made to police against the Baba as he was carrying out illegal activities in the ashram.
However, Police, who arrested the godman following the complaint of Patra’s family, later had revealed that baba was innocent and was not involved in the murder after interrogating the accused.
