Koraput district is in the southern part of Odisha bordering to Andhra Pradesh .It is a home to many primitive tribes .Located in the Eastern Ghats Covered with thick forests and dotted by pristine waterfalls and deep valleys, Koraput, in Odisha, is a natural retreat with a languid pace of life. The region also has rich mineral deposits; including aluminum ore, manganese, and limestone. The Engine division and Sukhoi division of the aircraft manufacturing company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, a public sector undertaking of Ministry of Defence is in Sunabeda of Koraput district. The Gupteshwar limestone cave temple on Ramgiri Hill and the Duduma and Bagra waterfalls are nearby add more importance to the district. The area was under the Chola kings in the 10th and 11th centuries.
The heavy downpour has caused inundation in several low-lying areas of the district. Following the flow of floodwater on the Raipur-Vizianagaram National Highway 26, which passes through the valley, some people have been shifted to a nearby local cooperative society building.

The weather bureau has issued Orange Alert for the districts of Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri with a forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Similarly, some other regions like Nuapada, Bolangir, Rayagada and Kalahandi have been put in Yellow zones with forecast of heavy rainfall.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has termed the spread of the border skirmishes from 20 odd villages under Kotia Gram Panchayat to other border villages in Koraput and Gajapati districts as ‘unfortunate’ and ‘matter of serious concern’.
