Health workers across all boundaries have been admired for their brave spirit during this war against the pandemic.

Sending an inspiring message to the society, some women health workers in Koraput proved their spirit as true warriors by going above and beyond the call of duty to cross a flooded river for conducting vaccination drive in nearby villages on Sunday.

According to reports, the local administration had earlier announced that Covid-19 vaccination drive would be launched in Atalguda, Kanguguda, Jhaliaguda and Mundaguda villages on Sunday. But, no villagers turned out at Baipariguda Health Centre for the inoculation drive due to increase in water level in the nearby river following heavy downpour.

However, the women health workers of the hospital were determined to continue the vaccination drive at any cost considering the gravity of the situation.

Health workers Sudhamani Mandi, Parbati Harijana and Sulochana Nayak braved the hostile weather and risked their lives to cross the full flowing river in perilous condition to continue the vaccination drive.

The video of the health workers wading through the river gushing with strong current has gone viral on social media platforms. This act of sincerity and sacrifice by the health workers has earned them applause from several quarters across the State.

The locals were effusive in their praise for the sincerity and selfless work of the women health workers.

“These three health workers have set an example for others to carry on their duties with utmost honesty and sincerity. The local administration should recognise their bravery and reciprocate accordingly,” said a villager.
