The bus carrying the labourers was intercepted by the IRB jawans while conducting a combing operation at Chilibalsa gate on Monday night. Around 80 labourers were rescued from the bus.

The police have recovered some mobile phones, Rs 2 lakh cash and some incriminating documents from him which reportedly have names and numbers of around 200 persons from around the country. It is suspected that all these 200 persons were targeted by Maiti.

As per reports, the Andhra Pradesh government has signed an MoU with the Adani Group for a 1200 MW hydroelectric power project in Manyam district near Kotia in August 2023.

Without a cremation ground in their village and the nearest one being on the other side of a river, the residents of Kelar village under Laxmipur block of Koraput district have to cross the river to cremate their near and dear ones.

In a tragic road mishap, three persons were killed and 13 others were severely injured in a collision between an SUV and an auto-rickshaw at Bijapur Square under Borigumma police limits of Koraput district on Friday. 

While the design has already been approved and the land has been identified, the project still hangs in balance because the government is yet to fix the price of the land.

Former MP and BJP leader Balabhadra Majhi said, "It will hardly take a year to acquire land for the project. Six years have passed, but the state government could not acquire an inch of land. Which is the priority project - the railway line or the airport in Malkangiri?”
