The region also has rich mineral deposits; including aluminum ore, manganese, and limestone. The Engine division and Sukhoi division of the aircraft manufacturing company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, a public sector undertaking of Ministry of Defence is in Sunabeda of Koraput district. The Gupteshwar limestone cave temple on Ramgiri Hill and the Duduma and Bagra waterfalls are nearby add more importance to the district. The area was under the Chola kings in the 10th and 11th centuries.
