In a tragic road mishap, three persons were killed and 13 others were severely injured in a collision between an SUV and an auto-rickshaw at Bijapur Square under Borigumma police limits of Koraput district on Friday. 

While the identities of the deceased and injured persons are yet to be ascertained, the deceased included two women and one man. 

The Chief Minister expressed grief over the mishap and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh to each of the bereaved families. He has also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured persons and directed the concerned department to provide all necessary treatment to them.

According to sources, a speeding SUV hit an auto rickshaw from behind at Bijapur Square. The collision was so severe that three persons died on the spot. Hearing the cries of the injured persons, locals rushed to the spot, rescued the injured persons, and shifted them to hospitals. 

Of the 13 injured persons, four have been admitted to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput, and the rest 13 at the Borigumma Community Health Centre (CHC). 

On being informed, a team from Borigumma Police Station reached the spot, recovered the bodies for post-mortem, and launched a probe to ascertain the circumstances leading to the mishap.
