Doctors often have to deliver difficult news to patients and their relatives in the healthcare industry, but the demanding nature of their work can sometimes make it challenging for them to convey.

However, a new trend has emerged where doctors are using AI chatbots to help them convey distressing information in a more compassionate way, reported New York Times.

OpenAI's ChatGPT is one such chatbot that is gaining popularity in this field.

ChatGPT Communication

Doctors are increasingly turning to AI-powered chatbots like ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, to improve their communication with patients when delivering difficult news, as per The New York Times report.

Since its release in November, this technology has quickly become an invaluable tool in the healthcare industry.

Peter Lee, the corporate vice president for research and incubations at Microsoft, acknowledges the significant role of ChatGPT in facilitating compassionate interactions between doctors and their patients.

Research conducted by the University of California in San Diego supports the effectiveness of AI chatbots in providing empathetic responses.

In a study comparing ChatGPT's responses to those of human doctors when answering patient questions, the chatbot's answers were rated as seven times more empathetic on average.

Medical experts involved in the study preferred the chatbot's responses in 78.6% of the presented scenarios, as per the report by The New York Times.

These findings highlight the potential of AI chatbots to revolutionize doctor-patient interactions and enhance the delivery of distressing news.
