AI is a hot topic nowadays, capturing the interest of people and industries.

Generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Bard, Dall.E, and Midjourney have gained popularity.

They have transformed how we create and edit visual content.

AI-Generated Images

AI-generated images are captivating and often create a sense of fascination due to their ability to produce visually striking and sometimes eerily realistic creations.

Prominent individuals like Anand Mahindra, have shown their interest in these AI tools.

Mahindra shared an AI-generated image of himself on Twitter, expressing his amusement and recognising the potential of this technology.

He even contemplated the idea of using AI to create virtual memories of his desired travel destinations, acknowledging how AI can craft lifelike yet artificial visuals.

"Well, this AI artist has done a hilarious take on 'my' Holi celebrations. I guess I should ask him to create 'memories' of my trips to ALL locations on my bucket list. At least I would have been there, done that, virtually! (P.S. This has only reminded me of how AI can so easily create fake images & fake news for not-so-amusing purposes. It's going to be a scary future)" - Anand Mahindra (sic)

The Impact of Deepfakes

The rise of deep fakes is a growing concern related to AI-generated images.

Tools like Midjourney enable the creation of manipulated visuals that have the potential to deceive and mislead viewers.

In March of this year, the internet was inundated with images showing Pope Francis wearing a puffer jacket with shades and former US President Donald Trump being arrested, both of which were deep fakes.

These manipulated images were so convincing that many people mistakenly believed them to be real photographs, revealing the challenges we may encounter in the future.

Differentiating between genuine and AI-generated images will become progressively more challenging for the average person.

Peril of AI-Generated Images

Generating AI images is made easy by providing the right prompts to the tools and allowing the algorithm to handle the rest.

While this technology offers great potential for creative endeavours and content creation, it also gives rise to ethical and societal issues.

The ease with which AI can generate fake images and news has far-reaching implications for problems like misinformation, privacy, and even security.
