The Odisha unit of the BJP has started cornering the ruling BJD over its free electricity announcement.

The party’s state Vice President Golak Mohapatra on Saturday dared Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to walk the talk of his free electricity promise by removing meters from homes.

“I have already said that the BJD party is a merchant of lies. Imitating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Modi KI Guarantee’, Odisha’s Chief Minister is also speaking about guarantees. He said if his party wins, people won’t have to pay the electricity bill. I would like to call his bluff. If people don’t need to pay electricity bill, launch a drive to remove meters from all houses. Ask the electricity department to remove all the meters installed in homes. Then only we will know the guarantee of your guarantee,” said Mohapatra.

“Whatever BJP is saying, it is on the basis of what it has done. PM Modi has given Rs 18.83 lakh crore to Odisha. And when you have been asked to furnish details of how the money was spent, you were not able to do so. This is Modi’s guarantee,” he added.

No reactions could be obtained from the BJD.
