A woman and her daughter have been left battling for their lives after being attacked by their neighbour over some alleged ‘land dispute’. The victims, who run a ladies' tailor shop, sustained grievous injuries and have been admitted to Burla-based VIMSAR Hospital where their conditions remain critical.

The brutal attack has been reported from Danipali village under Ainthapalli police limits in Sambalpur district on Friday. The victim duo has been identified as Indu Das and her daughter Payal Das while the accused is their neighbour Suraj Hati.

According to sources, a dispute prevailed between the Das family and Suraj, over some land. As usual, the mother-daughter duo was on their way to their tailor shop when Suraj attacked them a knife, leaving them critically injured.

“The victim girl can speak, but her mother is very critical and is not able to say anything. Due to the attack by the miscreant using a knife, they have sustained injuries on their chest, belly and other body parts,” informed Sambalpur Sadar SDPO, Tofan Bag.

Bag added, “Following instructions from Sambalpur SP, we have already formed a special team to nab the accused who is currently absconding. But, efforts are on to nab him as soon as possible. Further investigation is also going on.”
