In an unfortunate incident, a havildar lost his life following a 'bomb' explosion while being taken to be defused at a place near Kathajodi river embankment in Cuttack on Friday. The deceased havildar has been identified as Pradip Malick.

As per initial reports, the exact reason leading to the mishap is yet to be ascertained. It is still unclear whether the SOP was being followed or not and whether there were any instructions from the senior officials. With the death of the constable under such circumstances, a high-level probe into the incident is being demanded.

"An unnatural death case has been registered and further investigation is underway. It was not a bomb rather it was firecrackers as we are being told," informed Additional DCP Anil Mishra.

Mishra said a detailed investigation will be conducted in this regard.

"The firecrackers were seized and were brought to be disposed of when the incident occurred," Mishra added.
