Vigilance sleuths on Thursday arrested Rajat Kumar Routray, a former clerk of Jajpur Tehsil on charge of multiple irregularities and misappropriation of government funds to the tune of Rs.4.95 crore.

According to sources, Routray was absconding since 2016 and had embezzled the fund from 1 April 2006 to 5 April 2016.

An audit in this regard was conducted by a Special Audit Team of Board of Revenue, Cuttack in 2016. On the basis of the audit report, the Vigilance had initiated an inquiry into the large scale bungling of government funds.

As soon as the audit was initiated, Nazir had fled and was not in contact with his family and close relations. He remained untraceable all these years, by changing his name and identity, and frequently changing his whereabouts and mobile numbers.

However, a month back a special team was formed by Odisha Vigilance to trace and nab the Nazir.

The team raided Nazir's rented house in Cuttack and nabbed him while he was trying to flee the spot.

Sources in the Vigilance said he has been forwarded to court today and further investigation into the matter is on.
