A man allegedly murdered his wife and injured his six-year-old daughter by slitting her throat over a suspected family feud in Ghatikia area of Bhubaneswar.

According to sources, Sanjit Das assaulted his wife Saraswati Das and daughter fatally which led to the death of Saraswati on the spot. His daughter who sustained grave injuries was rushed to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar and is currently undergoing treatment.

On a tip-off, Deputy Commissioner of Police Pratik Singh reached the spot and launched an investigation to unravel the reason behind Sanjit’s gruesome attack.

Addressing media, DCP said “Saraswati was a nurse while her husband Sanjit was jobless. Sanjit was a habitual drunkard. Saraswati and Sanjit have a four-day old daughter too. The reason behind the gruesome act is yet to be established.”

“Sanjit was living in a joint family along with his two brothers Manjit and Ranjit apart from wife and children. It is learnt from his siblings that Sanjit had no source of income. He used to depend on others for his daily expenses. Hearing a large sound, Sanjit’s family members rushed to Sanjit’s room and found Saraswati and her daughter lying unconscious. Sanjit has fled the spot after committing the crime.  We will reveal the reason behind Sanjit’s such act after further investigation”, the DCP added.
