Locals said Bhawani and his brother had been at loggerheads over a piece of land. The sibling duo was in a bitter relationship over the land dispute. So, it is suspected that Bhawani’s brother and sister-in-law hired contract killers from Balasore to kill the former.
A preliminary probe suggests that the woman is mentally unsound.
On the arrest of middlemen, ACP Amitabh Mohapatra informed, “We had deployed our staff in plain clothes at the casualty wing of the SCB. We have arrested five brokers and seized some outdoor tickets and cash worth Rs 1500.”
All the five accused had procured the Ganja from Kandhamal district and had reached Bhubaneswar via bus. As liquor is now banned in Bihar, there is a rise in demand for Ganja, especially sourced from Odisha.

Puri SP Pinak Mishra said, “We will investigate their forward and backward linkage -- who others are involved in it and from where the two were procuring the banned substance. Their distribution network is under scanner. The two will be thoroughly interrogated.”
The accused has been identified as Rajat Kumar of Haryana. He was nabbed from Himachal Pradesh on February 4 and brought to Bhubaneswar on a transit remand today. Rajat Kumar was arrested based on the complaint filed by a lady journalist in Bhubaneswar.
