A court in Ganjam convicted five members of a family in a double murder case and sentenced them to life imprisonment on Thursday. 

As per reports, Gula Swain and his son Rajendra Swain, residents of Jagannathpur under Patapur police limits, were murdered on December 28, 2013. 

Police had arrested eight persons including five members of the family in connection with the murder case. 

Hearing the case, additional district and sessions judge Indu Sharma pronounced the verdict on Thursday. The court had held a trial of the case on the basis of the statements from 19 witnesses and found five among eight accused guilty.

The convicts facing the life imprisonment are Bhagban Swain, Saroj Swain, Amin Swain, Kartik Swain and Dhanu Swain.

Speaking to the media, public prosecutor Soubhagya Mishra said, ”The court verdict in the double murder case has come 11 years after the incident. Deceased Gula Swain’s wife was also critically injured when the murder had taken place. She was among 19 witnesses who testified before the court.”
