Puri: Tourism minister Ashok Panda launched a fleet of Tourist Police here today in the presence of director-general of police Sanjeev Marik, chief secretary G.C. Pati and Tourism secretary Arvind Padhee.
Launching the fleet of seven police personnel of Sea Beach police station, Panda said the Tourist Assistance Cell set up at the police station will handle only tourist-related cases.
After Puri, the model will be implemented at six other tourist destinations of the State, the minister added.
Official sources said the fleet will be attached to seven existing police stations in the State and will be controlled by the concerned inspectors-in-charge (IICs).
Apart from Puri, the Odisha Police will deploy Tourist Police personnel at police stations in Satapada and Konark, both in Puri district, Dhauli, Nandankanan and Lingaraj temple in Bhubaneswar and Gopalpur in Ganjam district.
