Jajpur: Four policemen were today suspended in Jajpur district on charge of dereliction of duty and misconduct.
Superintendent of police, Jajpur, Anup Kumar Sahu, said he suspended them after an inquiry found them guilty.
The four allegedly tried to stop a cattle laden truck on National Highway-5 on Saturday night to extract money from the cattle smugglers. The truck, however, hit the police vehicle and sped away, the inquiry revealed.
Constables Das and Mallik who were inside the vehicle sustained injuries in the incident. The patrolling vehicle was also badly damaged. The action followed an inquiry after the incident appeared in a section of press.
SP Sahu said it was a serious offence as the four did not inform the matter to senior officers though two constables were injured and the vehicle damaged.
The four are assistant sub-inspector Sudhira Routray, constables Sanjaya Das and Akshaya Swain and driver Balaram Das of Dharmasala police station in the district.
