Cuttack: Cultural programmes during upcoming Dassehra festival will continue till 12 mid-night unlike previous year. The music which was allowed till 10 pm was also increased to mid-night.
It was decided at a joint meeting between Cuttack peace committee and district administration and police yesterday. A little change has also been made in the route idols procession during immersion. As per the decision, the puja committees would take their idols straight to immersion point Devigada via municipality road instead of Phiring bazar, DCP Sanjeev Arora, who attended the meeting, said.
The meeting emphasized mostly on a disciplined immersion festival. The peace committee asked the district administration to ensure proper sanitation, 24 hours supply of electricity and water during the festival.
Similarly, as per the High Court order, district administration has taken steps to dig four makeshift ponds at Devigada where the idols will be immersed.
Sources said as many as 156 ‘medhas’ including four silver will glitter in the upcoming festival in the historic city.
