Jharsuguda: Normal life at different places in Jharsuguda has been paralysed due to a dawn-to dusk bandh call by BJP demanding declaration of the district as drought-hit on Wednesday.
Vehicular movement in the district has come to a standstill due to the bandh. The party activists organised picketing at Beheramal and Badamal of the town disrupting running of vehicles on roads connecting Sambalpur.
The saffron party is alleging that paddy crop has been damaged due to scanty rainfall and pest outbreaks in five blocks of the district.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Radharani Panda has been on hunger strike since Monday in front of the Collector’s office demanding proper assistance to farmers of the district.
Panda said, “As a people’s representative I am on hunger strike and have supports from my party. We are fighting for the rights of farmers. Besides, to wake up the State government from deep slumber, we are observing the bandh.”
