Sambalpur: Offering of new rice or ‘Nabanna’ will be done on the occasion of Nuakhai in between 8.20 am and 8.35 am on September 18 at Maa Samaleswari temple in the city. The Brahma Mandap Pandit Mahasabha decided the stipulated lagna (auspicious moment) for the agrarian festival today.
People from this region thank God for a good harvest and offer Nabanna to Goddess Samaleswari, the presiding deity of Sambalpur at the stipulated lagna.
During this period, families also offered the Navanna to their respective Istadevata (presiding deity) and Goddess Laxmi (Goddess of Wealth) as a mark of gratitude for a bumper harvest, good rain and a favourable weather.
As per the tradition, the auspicious moment for Nuakhai decided on Nanda Utsav, a day after Janmastami.
