Balangir: A day after three farmers committed suicide in Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Bargarh districts, another ryot from Balangir district allegedly took the extreme step in a similar manner on Tuesday.
The deceased identified as Parikhita Nag of Batharala under Sindhikela police limits consumed poison on October 25 and was admitted to Mission Hospital in Khariar.
However, after three days of treatment Nag was declared dead by the doctors.
Nag had grown cotton in two acres land and paddy in one acre for which he had borrowed some amount from his relatives, family sources said. He was under severe mental stress due to crop failure, sources added.
“The information came in the morning from the office of the sub-collector, Titilagarh. Now, the sub-collector, BDO, tehsildar and district agriculture officer are investigating the matter. A complete report will come within a four hours. Then I can tell the reason of the farmer’s death”, Balangir collector M Muthukumar said.
Notably, Satrugna Behera of Tikarpada in Keonjhar district, Baidhar Pradhan of Sankulei under Sadar block in Dhenkanal district, Pabitra Bariha of Saribahal in Bargarh allegedly ended life by consuming poison on Monday.
