Disallowed to appear in exams, students go berserk, ransack college
Boudh: The Plus-II students of Lopamudra Junior College at Manmunda area in the district today went berserk and ransacked the college after being denied permission to appear in the examinations. The agitated students set on fire the documents and furniture kept in the college building.
In another case of mismanagement in the ongoing higher secondary exams, the secretary of the college took Rs 15,000 from the students for admission into the Arts stream of the college, according to sources. He also took the examination fees from the students. However, students did not received their admit cards and turned violent when prevented from taking the exams.
“Our names have not been registered with the CHSE, hence we could not sit for the exams,” said one the agitating students. “The secretary has been on the run for the past few days after taking money from us and with nowhere to go, we were forced to take this step,” said another harassed student.
The district collector said the fees have not been deposited with CHSE, so no admit card has been issued. “We are investigating the matter and whosoever has tried to play with the future of these students will not be spared,” he added.
Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation into the matter while the accused secretary is absconding.
