Mayurbhanj: Suspected of practising witchcraft, five women were tied to a tree and beaten up by a furious mob in Madhupur village under Badasahi police limits of Mayurbhanj district.
The incident which took place on October 22 last month, came to the fore today after its video footage got viral on social media.
According to sources, some villagers in Madhupur died one after another due to unnatural reasons following which a meeting was held to discuss the probable reasons. The meeting suspected the involvement of one person of the village behind the deaths. On suspicion, they thrashed him till he revealed the name of five women allegedly practising witchcraft leading to the deaths.
Irked, few villagers dragged the five suspected women out of their house, tied them to a tree and beat them up severely until police came and rescued them.
Meanwhile, sources said police have not registered a case in this regard neither any action has been taken against the persons involved in the incident.
