OPECA demands CB probe into fake OJEE portal
Bhubaneswar: Alleging that the registration of students for admission into professional courses is being done on a fake website of Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE), the Odisha Private Engineering College Association (OPECA) today demanded a Crime Branch probe into the matter.
Talking to OTV today, OPECA chairperson Binod Das said he came to know this morning that someone had opened a fake OJEE website with a list of colleges in which there is no mention of any old engineering college. The students have been asked to register their name
through this website.
“I am seriously concerned that an attempt has been made to dupe innocent students who are not aware of the matter. This will not only ruin their career, but also their parents who will sustain huge financial losses,” Das said.
He said after he came to know about the matter, he immediately contacted OJEE chairman Dr Tusharkant Nath, who told him that such incident had also taken place in 2014.
“The OJEE chairman said after the OJEE lodged a complaint, the state government had asked the Crime Branch to probe the matter. The Crime Branch, in course of its investigation, had arrested some students in 2015,” he added.
Das urged the media to bring this incident to the notice of the state government, OJEE and the Crime Branch and ask the OJEE to come up with a clarification to inform the students to register their name on the official OJEE website.
When asked as to why such incident takes place at regular intervals, Das said it is the duty of the Crime Branch to probe the case and arrest the accused.
“I cannot tell you exactly whether the OJEE portal has been hacked or it is a parallel website. “Only the technical persons will be able to say,” he observed.
He said OPECA had decided to write a letter on this to the state government, the concerned minister and secretary tomorrow. The OJEE chairman has also informed that he will also take up the matter with the state government very soon.
“Unless we take up a massive campaign against such illegal practices, innocent students and their parents and guardians would be the victims of fraud,” Das pointed out.
Talking to OTV over phone, the OJEE chairman said the official website of OJEE is www.ojee.nic.in which the OJEE has been repeatedly giving in advertisements in the print and electronic media.
“Students are registering their name on this website and the process is underway. There is no problem with this portal. I urge the students not to enter into any other website and register their name in the official website of OJEE and participate in the counselling,” Nath informed.
