Justice RK Patra probing chit fund scam passes away
Cuttack: Justice Radha Krushna Patra, who was heading the one-man Commission of Inquiry to probe the multi-crore chit fund scam in Odisha, passed away here this morning. He was 72.
The former chief justice of Sikkim High Court was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital here with complaints of dyspnea, chest congestion and angina on January 24.
Later, he was put on life support system at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Medicine ward under the supervision of Prof Dr C B K Mohanty. Since last evening, his condition started deteriorating and he was not responding to medicines, medical sources said.
“All our efforts to save Justice Patra, who was suffering from pneumonia and respiratory problems, went in vain and he passed away at 9.30 this morning,” SCB emergency officer Bhubanananda Moharana told our correspondent.
In November last, Odisha government for the third time gave six months extension to the R K Patra Commission, which was set up in July 2013 following a hue and cry as the chit fund companies vanished overnight after duping thousands of gullible investors.
