Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Wednesday stated that 33 blocks and 11 urban areas across the state were affected by Cyclone Montha, which brushed past the Odisha coast following its landfall on Tuesday night.

“Odisha had begun active preparedness on a war footing almost immediately after the IMD informed of an impending cyclone. Over 19,000 people, including 2,198 pregnant women, were shifted to safer locations as part of the large-scale evacuation efforts ahead of the storm’s impact,” he stated.

    Cyclone Montha nears Andhra coast, IMD warns of heavy rain and strong winds

    Cyclone Montha has moved north-northwestwards and, as of 4:30 PM IST on October 28, was positioned about 50 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam, 130 km south-southeast of Kakinada, 230 km south-southwest of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, and 470 km south-southwest of Gopalpur in Odisha, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The cyclone is expected to bring heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and rough sea conditions along the Andhra and Odisha coasts over the next 24 hours. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
