A large rock collapsed and damaged parts of a temple in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday, following continuous rainfall triggered by Cyclone Month. Fortunately, no devotees or priests were present at the site when the incident occurred, preventing a major mishap.
As per reports, the incident took place at the Upara Byaghra Devi Temple in Kulada under Bhanjanagar block of Ganjam district. The massive rock that rolled down from above the temple damaged the boundary wall of the Lord Hanuman temple situated below. Cracks have also developed on the main temple walls due to the impact.
Rainfall Causes Landslides In Southern Odisha
Reports suggest that heavy rainfall associated with Cyclone Montha has led to incidents of land and mudslides in various parts of Ganjam and the neighbouring Gajapati district. The continuous downpour has caused soil loosening in hilly regions, leading to rock displacements and damage in several areas.
Administration On Alert To Manage Situations
The local administration has remained on high alert to tackle such incidents and is taking prompt measures to clear roads and maintain vigilance in landslide-prone areas, reportedly. Officials are closely monitoring vulnerable zones to prevent further damage.
In recent weeks, many regions across Odisha had witnessed similar incidents of land and mudslides caused by incessant monsoon rains, prompting the authorities to strengthen precautionary measures in affected areas, as sources said.
