Severe cyclonic storm Montha has gradually weakened and is no longer expected to affect Odisha. The storm has transformed into a Deep Depression, with its current centre over the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, official sources said on Wednesday.

While Odisha remains largely unaffected by the cyclone, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar has forecast light to moderate rainfall across parts of the State over the next two days.
The weather system is moving north-northwest at a speed of 15 kilometres per hour and is situated approximately 130 kilometres south-southwest of Malkangiri.
According to the official sources, as it moves over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and southern Chhattisgarh, the Deep Depression is expected to weaken further. Residents are advised to stay alert for any localised rainfall and follow official weather updates.
In its evening bulletin, the IMD regional centre mentioned, “The cyclonic storm ‘Montha’ over coastal Andhra Pradesh moved north-northwestwards at a speed of 15 kmph during past six hours, weakened into a Deep Depression and lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 29th October 2025 over coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Telangana near latitude 17.3°N and longitude 81.2°E, about 50 kilometres south-southeast of Bhadrachalam (Andhra Pradesh), 110 km east of Khammam (Telangana), 130 km south-southwest of Malkangiri (Odisha) and 220 km south-southwest of Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh). It is likely to move north-northwestwards across Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Telangana and south Chhattisgarh and weaken into a Depression during the next six hours.”
The weakening of cyclone Montha brings relief to Odisha after the storm caused significant disruption in other regions of the country. Authorities continue to monitor the system to ensure timely warnings in case of sudden weather changes.
When contacted, the IMD regional centre Director Manorama Mohanty said, “The weather system will not have any major impact today on Odisha. However, heavy rains could lash one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Balasore and Bhadrak districts.”
