Cyclone 'Montha': Kali Puja gate collapses due to heavy rain, traffic disrupted in Jajpur

Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds induced by Cyclone 'Montha' led to the collapse of a decorative light gate installed for Kali Puja at College Square in Byasanagar under Jajpur district on Tuesday.

As per reports, the damaged structure blocked a portion of the Jajpur Road-Kalinganagar route, causing significant disruption to traffic movement in the area. 

As per reports, the light gate collapsed around 1 pm today as the intensity of the rain gradually increased. The Kali Puja committee members informed the local administration about the development immediately.

"We were near the puja mandap when the light gate collapsed around 1 pm today. We came running to the spot immediately. Nobody has been injured in the process. We are guarding the place, and some police personnel are also present on the spot. Traffic movement on the road has been disrupted. We are trying to restore normal traffic flow," said a member of the puja committee.

Local authorities have reportedly begun efforts to clear the debris and restore normal traffic flow. The tent house workers and fire service personnel have started removing the gate from the road.

"The gate has collapsed due to heavy rain induced by the cyclone. We are trying to clear the road to normalise the traffic and ensure that people do not face any problems," said a police official present on the spot.
