28 trawlers stranded off Ganjam coast amid Cyclone ‘Montha’

As many as 28 fishing trawlers have been stranded in the sea near Gopalpur in Ganjam district due to rough sea conditions triggered by the impact of Cyclone 'Montha' on Monday.

As per reports, the trawlers have been unable to sail towards Andhra Pradesh because of the high tides and turbulent sea surface.

Meanwhile, with fishermen on board the stranded vessels, the district administration has requested immediate rescue operations. In response, the Gopalpur Port authorities initiated efforts to bring all the trawlers safely to shore.

As per the local residents, all the trawlers are from Andhra Pradesh. Those trawlers were stranded in the sea while returning to Andhra Pradesh due to the turbulent sea because of the Cyclone ‘Montha’ impact. There were around five to six fishermen in each trawler.

Notably, Cyclone 'Montha' is expected to make landfall near Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, on October 28. IMD has predicted that the system will intensify into a severe cyclonic storm before landfall.
