A powerful cyclone named 'Montha' has formed over the Bay of Bengal on Sunday night. Warnings have been issued across Odisha as the storm advances for landfall.
The administration has also issued an alert for the Chilika Lake area. Since October 25, fishermen have been strictly prohibited from venturing into the lake. Around 7,500 fishermen and more than 300 passenger boats have been moved from the jetties to safer locations.
Authorities have stated that full preparations are in place to effectively face the impact of Cyclone 'Montha'.

As per the instructions of the State government, the district administration has been fully ready to tackle any kind of eventualities to arise out of Cyclone 'Montha'. The administration has fully prepared itself to prevent any possible damage.
IMD has issued a yellow warning to Khordha district and the Chilika area is likely to experience heavy rain and wind due to Cyclone 'Montha'. The administration has made all kinds of preparations to tackle the situation.
"We have not received any letter from the district administration for 'Cyclone Montha'. However, we are fully alert for the impending cyclone. We have prevented our association members not to venturing into the lake with passengers. The boats have been moved to safer locations," said the Chilika Boat Association Secretary.
