Cyclone ‘Montha’ brings rain and change in weather across Odisha

Rainfall has begun in the southern districts of Odisha as Cyclone ‘Montha’ starts to make its impact on Monday. According to reports, dark clouds covered the skies, bringing light showers to several parts of Bhubaneswar in the afternoon. Intermittent drizzle continued across many areas as weather conditions kept changing.

Coastal districts also experienced light rain accompanied by mild winds due to the cyclone’s influence. Rain has been reported in districts such as Khordha, Nayagarh, Cuttack, and Puri.

As per the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall and wind speeds of up to 40 km per hour are expected between 2:58 pm and 5:58 pm in districts including Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khordha, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri, and Rayagada. Moderate thunderstorms are likely in Angul, Balasore, Cuttack, Bhadrak, and Dhenkanal during this period.

Many of these districts, such as Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Kendrapara, Khordha, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri, and Rayagada, have already witnessed rainfall under the cyclone’s influence.

According to IMD predictions, as Cyclone ‘Montha’ moves closer to making landfall, its impact will intensify, particularly in the southern and coastal districts of Odisha. The effects of the cyclone are expected to become more severe from this evening, bringing heavy rainfall mainly to these regions. Though the impact of Cyclone ‘Montha’ is likely to be more on the southern districts of Odisha, the coastal areas will experience heavy rainfall.
