The impact of Cyclone Montha caused significant damage to the Eco Retreat Camp located at Girilimali in the Semiliguda block of Koraput district on Wednesday. According to reports, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lashed the region, leading to the destruction of tents and other structures at the popular tourist site.

Sources said that the tent materials used for the Eco Retreat were blown away by the powerful winds. The district administration is assessing the extent of damage caused by the cyclone’s impact in the area.

The Eco Retreat at Girilimali, known for its scenic hilltop location and eco-friendly facilities, attracts a large number of tourists every year. However, due to the inclement weather, authorities have reportedly suspended all activities at the site until conditions improve.

Restoration work is expected to begin once the weather normalises. Officials have been instructed to ensure the safety of both property and personnel associated with the camp.

Meanwhile, landslides, road blockades, and power outages owing to heavy rainfall under the influence of Cyclone Montha and its remnants have severely impacted the Koraput district.

Narayanpatna block in particular bore the major brunt of the cyclone, with landslides being reported hours before Montha made landfall late last night near Kakinada of Andhra Pradesh.
Moreover, several trees were uprooted and power lines snapped due to strong gusts, plunging nearby villages into darkness.
