Places that recorded maximum temperatures above 47 degrees Celsius are: Ganganagar (48.3), Bikaner (48.2), Churu (47.5), Phalodi, Jaisalmer (both 47.4), Pilani (47.3) - all in Rajasthan, Bhind (48.7), Nowgong, Khajuraho (both 47.6) - all in Madhya Pradesh, Mungeshpur (47.2), Najafgarh (47) - both in Delhi; Sirsa (47.8), Hisar (47.5) - both Haryana, and Jhansi (47.3) in Uttar Pradesh.

There will be no large change in maximum temperature during the next 24 hours.

The dip in the temperature was a result of rains - although trace for many parts and light rain for some - in the Delhi NCR from Wednesday evening through the night. The met department has predicted partly cloudy sky with maximum temperature expected at 39 degrees Celsius.

With these data, the researchers identified more than 10 potential coral refugia - habitats that may offer a safe haven for corals facing climate change. Among the potential refugia, there was up to 40 per cent less coral mortality than on neighbouring reefs, despite similar heat stress.

This year's extreme heat wave condition across the country is not only affecting humans, but also birds.

Health facilities need to increase resilience to extreme heat by arranging uninterrupted electricity for constant functioning of cooling appliances, installation of solar panels, measures to reduce indoor heat through cool/green roofs, window shades, and shade outside, among others.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an "orange" alert, warning the city residents of a severe heatwave on Friday.

Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said in southern and coastal Odisha, there will be no heatwave conditions. 

Meanwhile, as per the IMD update at 8.30 p.m., the city was having a relative humidity of 36 per cent. The city observed sunrise at 5.47 a.m., and sun set at 6.52 p.m.

As per data released by the India Meteorological Department's Regional Centre, six towns in the State recorded temperature above 40 degree Celsius till 2.30 pm in the day.
