In a letter, SRC Satyabrata Sahu directed the collectors to launch awareness campaigns immediately to make people aware of the risks associated with the heat wave, identifying the risk and what to do if some is affected.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took a review meeting with senior officers on the current heat wave condition and various health-related facilities.
As per the latest IMD forecast, heat wave conditions are likely to prevail in some parts of interior Odisha from April 13 to April 15.
On Monday, two places in Odisha- Jharsuguda and Baripada recorded a maximum temperature of 40.4 and 40 degrees, respectively.
The day temperature crossed 40 degree Celsius mark for the first time this season with poll-bound Jharsuguda district recording highest 40.4 degree Celsius.
As per the latest weather forecast issued by the IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar, there will be no large change in the maximum temperature (day temperature) during next three-four days. However, it will increase by 2 to 3 degree Celsius thereafter.
Uma Shankar Das, scientist at India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Regional Centre tweeted that Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 37. 6 degrees Celsius by 2:30 pm on Tuesday.
In February 1963, Bhubaneswar had recorded 42.7 degrees Celsius which is an all-time high.

Places that recorded maximum temperatures above 47 degrees Celsius are: Ganganagar (48.3), Bikaner (48.2), Churu (47.5), Phalodi, Jaisalmer (both 47.4), Pilani (47.3) - all in Rajasthan, Bhind (48.7), Nowgong, Khajuraho (both 47.6) - all in Madhya Pradesh, Mungeshpur (47.2), Najafgarh (47) - both in Delhi; Sirsa (47.8), Hisar (47.5) - both Haryana, and Jhansi (47.3) in Uttar Pradesh.
There will be no large change in maximum temperature during the next 24 hours.
The dip in the temperature was a result of rains - although trace for many parts and light rain for some - in the Delhi NCR from Wednesday evening through the night. The met department has predicted partly cloudy sky with maximum temperature expected at 39 degrees Celsius.
